The government has released 56 life term awarded prisoners upon completion of 20 years in imprisonment.

Assistant inspector general, development, office prisons headquarter, Dhaka Md Jannat-Ul-Farhad confirmed the matter to BSS on Tuesday.


He said that the government had recently ordered to release 56 life sentence awarded prisoners, who have completed 20 years of their sentences, including remission, under the powers conferred by section 569 of the Jail Code and Section 401(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The order to release them was issued under the rule known as the ‘Twenty Years Rule’.
