At least 248 patients with dengue fever were admitted to different hospitals across the country during the past 24 hours till Thursday morning.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services, including the latest, this year a total of 6,926 people were hospitalised and 30 people died of dengue.
Of them, 2,581 people were hospitalised in the first 19 days of June while 7 others died of dengue at the same time.
In January, 1,161 people were hospitalized with dengue, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April, and 1,773 in May.
During the same period, 10 people died of dengue in January, three in February, seven in April and three in May.
Of the hospitalised patients in the past 24 hours, 104 patients were hospitalised in Barishal, 39 in Chattogram, 35 in the Dhaka South City Corporation, 20 in the Dhaka North City Corporation, 18 in different districts of Dhaka, seven in Khulna, four in Mymensingh and 18 in Rajshahi.
The vector-born disease dengue has arisen as a serious public health concern in the country over past several years.
A dengue outbreak was first officially reported in the country in 2000 when 93 people died and 5,551 patients were hospitalised, according to DGHS data. Dengue killed 1,705 people and sent 3, 21,179 others to hospitals in 2023 alone against 853 deaths and 2, 44,246 hospitalisation between 2000 and 2022, the DGHS data showed.
Last year, the country witnessed a severe dengue outbreak that resulted in 575 deaths and 1,01,214 reported cases. A total of 1,00,040 patients recovered during the period.
