
At least four people, including a mother and her daughter, were killed and 20 more were injured in two separate road crashes in Pabna and Mymensingh districts on Wednesday.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Pabna reported that three people including a mother and her daughter died on the spot and the father was injured when a covered van crashed into a motorcycle on the Dashuria-Kushtia highway in the Mirkamari Munnar crossing area under Ishwardi upazila in the district at around 7:00am.
The deceased are Suborna Khatun, 45, wife of Mofizul Islam, a resident of Natore Sadar upazila, and her daughter Purnta, 8 and Anisur Rahman, 55, a local litchi seller of Mirkamari Munnar crossing area of the upazila. Mofizul Islam was seriously injured in the accident.
Pakshi highway police outpost sub-inspector Kallol Hossain said that retired Border Guard Bangladesh member Mofizul Islam was returning to his house in Natore from his in-laws’ house in Kushtia with his family on a motorcycle.
Mofizul stopped at the accident spot to buy litchis and during buying the fruits the covered van coming from behind hit the motorcycle and Anisur.
Later, the members of fire services rushed Mofizul to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex.
Confirming the incident, Ishwardi police officer-in-charge Abdur Noor said that the bodies were also kept at the health complex for autopsy.
Later, the bodies were handed over; he said, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that a person died on the spot and 19 others were injured in a bus accident in front of Gasline Filling Station of China Circle in Mymensingh town on Wednesday.
The deceased is Md Manjurul Hasan, 41, assistant of the bus driver.
The accident occurred when the driver of the bus lost control over the steering and hit a road divider in the area.
Police rescued the injured and sent them to a local hospital.
Seven injured were admitted to different wards of the hospital in critical condition.
The bus driver, however, managed to escape the scene.
