
Three people, including a woman and her daughter, were killed and another was injured after a speeding covered van crashed into them in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna district on Wednesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Suborna Khatun and her daughter Purnota of Natore Sadar upazila, and litchi vendor Anisur Rahman of Salimpur union in Ishwardi.
The injured, Mofizul Islam, husband of Suborna and a former member of Border Guard Bangladesh, is undergoing treatment at Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex.
Quoting local people, police said Mofizul was returning home to Natore from his father-in-law’s house in Kushtia, along with his wife and daughter by a motorbike.
He had stopped the motorbike by the roadside in Mirkamari Munnar Morr area to buy litchis from vendor Anisur when a speeding covered van rammed into them from behind around 7:30am, killing Suborna, Purnota and Anisur on the spot.
Mofizul was rushed to the nearby upazila health complex, where he is receiving treatment.
Officer-in-charge of Ishwardi Police Station, Abdur Nur, said that the bodies were sent to the health complex for post-mortem examinations and legal action would be taken in connection with the incident.
