
Leader of Samajtantrik Khetmajur O Krishak Front on Thursday at a rally in Dhaka demanded 40 per cent of the development allocation for the agricultural sector in the forthcoming budget for fiscal 2025-26.
The organisation held a rally in front of the National Press Club presided over by its president Bazlur Rashid Firoz.
Bazlur Rashid Firoz said that a higher priority must be placed on the agricultural sector as Bangladesh was chiefly an agricultural country and that this sector got more allocations in the national budget.
He called on the interim government to give 40 per cent of total development allocation in the agricultural sector in the forthcoming budget.
The 45 per cent of total population of the country involved in agriculture sector would be benefited by the increased allocation, Bazlur Rashid Firoz said at the rally.
General secretary of the organisation Abdul Quddus, vice-president Jaynal Abedin Mukul, central leader Nikhil Das and others spoke at the rally.
A delegation of the organisation handed over a memorandum to finance adviser Salehuddin Ahmad at the Bangladesh secretariat.
The rally was followed by a protest procession that paraded different city roads.
