
Bangladesh Railway and the private bus operators are going to start selling advance train and bus tickets from March 14 ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr.
All train tickets will be sold online.
The railway will run 10 special additional passenger trains and add 44 new coaches to its regular trains.
The Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation will start selling advance bus tickets from March 20.
The update came on Sunday at an inter-ministerial meeting held at the Bidyut Bhaban in the capital to make Eid journeys safe and smooth.
Adviser to the ministries of road transport and bridges and railways Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan chaired the meeting.
This year Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to be held on April 1.
For the Eid travellers the railway is going to sell advance tickets on seven days.
Selling of advance tickets for trains in the west zone would start from 8:00am each day and for trains in the east zone would start from 2:00pm till the tickets remain available.
At the meeting, Bangladesh Railway director general Md Afzal Hossain said that on March 14 advance tickets would be sold for train journeys on March 24, on March 15 for March 25, on March 16 for March 26, on March 17 for March 27, on March 18 for March 28, on March 19 for March 29 and on March 20 for March 30.
Based on sighting of the moon, the tickets of March 31, April 1 and 2 will be sold.
On March 24, advance return tickets will be sold for April 3, on March 25 for April 4, on March 26 for April 5, on March 27 for April 6, on March 28 for April 7, on March 29 for April 8 and on March 30 for April 9.
During this Eid, 10 additional trains will operate on Chattogram鈥揅handpur, Dhaka鈥揇ewanganj, Bhairab Bazar鈥揔ishoreganj, Mymensingh鈥揔ishoreganj and Joydevpur鈥揚arbatipur routes.
For non-air-conditioned compartments 25 per cent standing tickets will be sold at counters during Eid journeys.
A person can buy a maximum of four tickets showing the national identity cards or birth certificate numbers of all passengers.
No advance tickets are refundable.
From March 27 all intercity trains鈥 weekly off-day will be cancelled till Eid-ul-Fitr.
At the meeting, Dhaka Road Transport Owner鈥檚 Association general secretary Md Saiful Alam said that they would start selling advance long route bus tickets from March 14.
BRTC acting chairman Anupam Saha said that they would start selling advance bus tickets from March 20 and during this Eid they would operate 775 buses under special services from Dhaka.聽
The meeting was also attended by the railways ministry secretary Md Fahimul Islam and Road Transport and Highways Division senior secretary Md Ehsanul Hoque.
