About 50 leaders and activists of Juba Dal and Krishak Dal carried out the attack on a rally organized by the Jatiya Nagarik Committee to mark Victory Day in presence of police personnel at about 10:30am on Monday, said witnesses and victims.
‘We organised the programme marking victory day. The attack was carried out by around 100 people of Juba Dal and Krishak Dal in the presence of police. Police remained silent during the attack,’ the committee’s central joint member secretary Mahmuda Alam Mitu, who was present during the attack, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.
She said that at least five people were injured in the attack and the miscreants vandalised chairs, tables and tortured the members of the Jatiya Nagarik Committee and the guests present in the programme.
Mahmuda filed a complaint with the Kotowali police station over the incident in the afternoon against Juba Dal Barishal city unit leader Aktaruzzman Shaon and 90 or 100 unidentified people.
Mahmuda said that police did not arrest anyone in this connection so far.
Barishal Kotowali police station officer-in-charge Mizanur Rahman said that they had received a complaint in this connection.
