
A mentally challenged girl was killed after being struck with a hammer allegedly for playing loud music in front of a house at Thanaghata village in Satkhira Sadar upazila on Saturday.
Victim Rozina Sultana Chumki, 20, was a vocational student at SWID Khatimunnesa Hanif Laskar School for the Mentally Challenged in Satkhira town.
The incident took place at about 9:00am and five people, including Ilias Hossain, 30, were detained by the Rapid Action Battalion.
According to local people, Ilias attacked Chumki while she was playing loud music on a speaker and walking in front of his house.
Ilias hit Chumki on the head with a hammer several times after a reported verbal altercation, leaving her dead on the spot.
Local people later detained Ilias as he tried to flee and handed him over to the RAB-3.
Later, RAB members detained five people, including Ilias and his parents, from the spot, said RAB-6 commander Faisal Tanvir.
Satkhira Sadar Hospital doctor Mamtaz Mujid said that Chumki was brought dead to the hospital with major head injuries.
She said that Ilias was admitted to the hospital as he was injured by the local people after the incident.
Satkhira Model Police Station inspector for investigation Md Tuhinuzzaman said that a case would be filed after due process.
