The Bangladesh Olympic Association on Tuesday provided a cheque of Tk 5 lakh to the family of late Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman, who passed away last year.
Zia died after suffering a cardiac arrest at the age of 50 while participating in a 12th round of the National Chess Championship in 2024.
This is the second time that BOA has provided their helping hand to the Zia family after June this year, when the organisation also aided a cheque of a similar amount of money.
On Tuesday, Zia’s widow, Tasmin Sultana Labanya, and his only son, FIDE master Tahsin Tajwar Zia, received the cheque from BOA director general Brig Gen (retd) ABM Shefaul Kabir.Â
Earlier in November 2024, Zia's family received Tk 5 lakh from former national cricket team captain Tamim Iqbal and a cheque of Tk 2 lakh from the Jubo Krirashebi Kalyan Foundation of ministry of youth and sports.Â
However, in the meantime, the Bangladesh Cricket Board also provided Tk 20 lakh in two instalments for the continuation of Tahsin’s game.Â
