The two-day ActionAid-DUDS Inter-University Debate Festival concluded at the University of Dhaka on Saturday.

DU treasurer Professor M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury was present as chief guest at the closing ceremony, which was presided over by Dhaka University Debating Society president Zubair Hossain, said a press release. 


DUDS chief moderator Professor SM Shamim Reza, moderator Professor Amirul Salat, ActionAid Bangladesh youth and justice society lead Nazmul Ahsan and ActionAid Bangladesh head of finance Md Rafiqul Islam were present as special guests at the ceremony.

Conducted by DUDS general secretary Ragib Anjum, Dhaka University Central Students’ Union literature and culture secretary Mosaddek Ali Ibne Mohammad delivered the welcome address at the ceremony.

Jahangir Alam emphasised on debating practice to enhance students’ negotiation skills and communication skills at the national and international levels.

He expressed hope that the various suggestions and proposals of the debate festival would play a role in formulating national plans.

Twenty-four university-level teams and 16 school and college-level teams participated in the debate festival.

Tahmida Maliha of Dhaka University emerged as the champion in the festival.

In the university-level debate, the delegation of Jahangirnagar University Debating Society emerged as champion and the delegation of Rajshahi University Debating Society emerged as the runner-up. In the school and college-level, BAF Shaheen College emerged as champion and the Government Science College emerged as the runner-up in the festival.
