
The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology held training and drilling titled ‘What to do during firefighting and earthquakes’ at the RUET on Saturday.
RUET vice-chancellor Professor SM Abdur Razzak was present as chief guest at the event, said a press release.
Teachers, students, officers and employees of four departments under the faculty of civil engineering and six departments under the faculty of mechanical engineering participated in the programme, conducted by the skilled firefighters, including assistant director Mohammad Didarul Alam.
After the inauguration of the programme, the RUET VC said that RUET had several halls and important labs. ‘In these labs, along with valuable equipment, more than a thousand students undergo hands-on training. Therefore, this drilling is organised so that all concerned, including students, can deal with unexpected situations during emergencies like short circuits and earthquakes.’
He also said, ‘This hands-on training is the need of the hour for knowledge and awareness about firefighting in saving lives and protecting property.’
Director of IQAC Professor Md Imdadul Haque presided over the programme, attended by heads of departments, teachers, students, officers and employees of the concerned faculties.
The programme will conclude with the participation of four departments of the faculty of electrical and computer engineering today.
