The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh has hosted a discussion on Alex Counts-written book titled Small Loans, Big Dreams at the ULAB in Dhaka recently.
The event brought together students, academics, development professionals and literary enthusiasts for a dialogue on microfinance, social entrepreneurship and grassroots empowerment, said a press release on Thursday.
The programme opened with an introduction by Professor Sarwar Uddin Ahmed, dean of the school of business, who spoke about the author’s academic and professional journey and his role in translating the Grameen Bank philosophy for global audiences.
Professor Imran Rahman, vice-chancellor of ULAB, welcomed the audience and reflected on how Grameen-inspired microfinance remained a vital part of Bangladesh’s development legacy.
This was followed by Arzoo Ismail, senior lecturer and BBA programme coordinator, who provided an overview of the book’s core themes.
Alex Counts’ discussion included his personal journey and how that aligned with his professional one.
Participants contemplated issues of empowerment, sustainability and the ethical implications of financial inclusion in both developing and developed nations.
