The budget, presented by the university treasurer Abdur Rob at the university’s annual senate session, allocates Tk 9.23 crore for research and innovation.
JU Treasurer Abdur Rob presented the budget during the session, held at the Senate Hall presided over by the university vice-chancellor, professor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan.
This year’s budget is Tk 14.58 crore less than the revised budget of Tk 337.93 crore for the previous year.
The majority of the budget—56.24 per cent—is dedicated to salaries for faculty and staff, pensions for retired personnel, and administrative expenses.
In the budget, 24.15 per cent is allocated for goods and services, and 11.99 per cent is earmarked for pensions and retirement benefits.
The allocation for research and innovation has increased slightly, from Tk 7.24 crore (2.14 per cent of the budget) in the previous year to Tk 9.23 crore (2.85 per cent). The University Grants Commission will contribute Tk 279.35 crore, while Tk 44 crore will be provided by the university.
Abdur Rob said that the university faced a deficit with significant financial burdens, including an allocation of Tk 10 crore to JU’s affiliated school and college.
On June 4, the JU syndicate approved the budget at a meeting in the new administrative building.
