
Bangladesh Open University on Saturday signed a memorandum of understanding with National Skills Development Authority to enhance skills of students and strengthen industry-academia collaboration and foster mutual cooperation in developing a skilled workforce.
The MoU was signed by Nasreen Afroz, executive chairman of NSDA, under the Chief Adviser’s Office, and Professor ABM Obaidul Islam, vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Open University, at the NSDA conference room of Agargaon in Dhaka, said a press release.
In addition to BOU, NSDA also signed MoUs on the same occasion with Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology and the National University.
M Siraj Uddin Mia, principal secretary to the chief adviser, was present as chief guest while Neyamat Ullah Bhuiyan, Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment senior secretary, was present as special guest at the event.
Siraj Uddin Mia emphasised that this MoU marked a vital step towards developing youth through skills training tailored to both current and future employment sectors.
He also stressed the importance of preparing university students with practical skills to meet the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution.
Nasreen Afroz remarked that these MoUs opened new horizons of collaboration between NSDA and the country’s leading universities, expressing optimism that such partnerships would significantly contribute to the development of the nation’s human resources.
ABM Obaidul Islam stated that BOU would extend its support to NSDA in designing national competency standards and skill development curricula.
‘This MoU signifies a major stride in national skill development and will play a vital role in producing skilled manpower for both domestic and global job markets,’ he said, adding that skill development through training was indispensable.
Presided over by Nasreen Afroz, Professor Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman from BUET, Professor SM Abdur Razzak, vice-chancellor of RUET, Professor ASM Amanullah, vice-chancellor of the National University, deans of various faculties, registrars, and senior officials from the Chief Adviser’s Office and NSDA, among others, attended the event.
