Theatre troupe Palakar celebrated its 23rd founding anniversary organising a programme at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Friday. 聽

The event featured music show, discussion and formation of the troupe鈥檚 new executive committee for the next two-year term.聽


Palakar member Kazi Faisal delivered the welcome speech at the programme. 聽

Bangladeshi singer-composer Shatabdi Vobo performed his original songs titled Dadosh Bekti and Dukkho Korona Ba(n)cho at the event. He also covered some popular Bengali songs, including Sara Dao, Amar Bhindeshi Tara and others.

Member secretary of Palakar Shamim Shagor said that although Palakar had enjoyed a beautiful journey, the troupe could not run its activities smoothly聽after the country was hit by the COVID-19 crisis.

鈥榃e have produced a new street theatre play titled 鈥淐houranik鈥 in the past two years. We will premiere our new theatrical production titled 鈥淪hoytaner Jahaj鈥 in July. It has been written by Himadri Kazi and directed by Charu Pintu,鈥 said Shamim Shagor.

鈥榃e want to start rehearsing for another theatre production based on Shahaduzzaman鈥檚 novel titled Mamlar Sakkhi Moyna Pakhi which will be directed by Aminur Rahman Mukul,鈥 added Shagor.

鈥楶alakar wants to traverse a rough road and enlighten people through theatre,鈥 said Aminur Rahman Mukul, president of Palakar.

鈥業 hope the new generation of theatre activists will be inspired by our journey and make more theatre productions that leave a lasting impression on people in the future. It is time to further our journey and take the next step. We want to become a professional theatre troupe but we are struggling a lot to follow through. We thank our members, audience and patrons who have helped and supported us in our journey. I hope that they will continue to support us in the future,鈥 added Aminur Rahman Mukul.聽

After the discussion, Palakar members participated in a conference and formed a new executive committee for the next two-year term.

Theatre troupe Palalar was founded on April 14, 2002 in Dhaka by theatre activist, filmmaker and photographer Aminur Rahman Mukul.

The troupe has produced 13 productions, including Maangula, Banglar Mati Banglar Jol, Narigan, Ujane Mrityu and Request Concert, Daakghar, Bayanno Bazar Tippanno Goli and others to date.
