Cultural activists on Saturday expressed concern over the postponement of the Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2026 at a view-exchange meeting.
The meeting was organised by the Ganatantrik Sanskritik Oikya at the seminar hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Meanwhile, Bangla Academy on September 28 decided to postpone the book fair due to Jatiya Sangsad elections
The cultural activists resented that whereas the Dhaka International Trade Fair would be held as scheduled, Bangla Academy’s decision on the book fair created frustration among authors, poets, publishers, readers and cultural activists.
They pointed out that the book fair was not only an occasion for sale of books but it was also an important cultural and historical event of Bangladesh.
They demanded taking proper steps to organise the prestigious book fair as usual during the national elections.Â
Chaired by convener of the Ganatantrik Sanskritik Oikya Mafijur Rahman Laltu, the event was moderated by Khandokar Shah Alam while Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigoshthi general secretary Jamshed Anwar Topon delivered the welcome speech.
