
The ‘Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2026’ is likely to be held after the national elections scheduled to be held in the first half of next February.
The Committee of Advisory Council on Law and Order at a meeting recommended the cultural affairs ministry to organise the book fair after the national elections due to security concerns ahead of the polls.
Earlier, the Bangla Academy on September 18 announced that this year’s book, fair which was usually held in February each year, would be held from December 17, 2025 to January 17, 2026 due to the forthcoming national elections and Ramadan.
Asked about the request of the law and order committee to defer the book fair, cultural affairs ministry secretary Mofidur Rahman on Friday told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that ‘We have informed the DG (director general) Bangla Academy for next action.’
The Committee of Advisory Council on Law and Order at its 14th meeting held on September 21, chaired by home adviser retired Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury took a decision to request the cultural ministry to organise the book fair after the elections.Â
The home ministry on Thursday sent the decision of the meeting to the cultural affairs ministry for taking its next course of action.
Interim government chief adviser Muhammad Yunus announced that the national elections will be held in the first half of February in 2026.
