The Bangla Academy on Sunday said that the forthcoming Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2026, scheduled to be held between December 17, 2025 and January 17, 2026, had been postponed due to the next national election.
The book fair is usually held in February every year, but the academy on September 18 announced that the fair would be held for a month until January 17, 2026 as the forthcoming national election and Ramadan would fall in February next year.
Bangla Academy director general Mohammad Azam on Sunday said that they, responding to the request from the committee of the advisory council on law and order, postponed the fair.
He said that they would later announce the rescheduled time of the fair after consulting with the publishers and other stakeholders.
On September 21, the committee of the advisory council on law and order, in a meeting at the secretariat, decided to request the cultural affairs ministry to organise the book fair after the national election due to security concerns ahead of the polls.
Interim government chief adviser Muhammad Yunus on several occasions announced that the next national election will be held in the first half of February in 2026.
