Police on Monday night recovered the body of a woman from a deep freezer in a house on First Lane in the capital’s Kalabagan area.

The deceased was identified as Taslima Akhter, 42, wife of Nazrul Islam, said police.

Kalabagan police inspector (investigation) Rafiqul Islam said they initially suspected Nazrul’s involvement in the incident, which is believed to have occurred on Sunday night.

‘The body bears injury marks, and Nazrul has been absconding since the incident,’ he said.

Quoting the victim’s daughter, the officer said Nazrul took his daughters to their maternal grandfather’s house in Adabor on Sunday morning. When they asked about their mother, he claimed she had left with someone else.

Becoming suspicious, they informed relatives, who later alerted police.

Officers broke open the locked house around 11:30pm on Monday and recovered the body.

The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, police said, adding that legal action is under way.
