The police recovered the hanging body of a day labourer from a fish enclosure in Khulna city on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Hamid, 57, resident of Rayermahal Northpara Bank Colony in the City.

According to the police, Hamid had been mentally distressed due to financial hardship and family disputes.

His only child is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital, which reportedly deepened his depression.

On Friday night, he went to stay at a friend’s fish enclosure in the Arangghata area, where people of the area later found him hanging.

The police retrieved the body and sent it to Khulna Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Arangghata police officer-in-charge Sheikh Khairul Basar said, ‘Preliminary investigation suggested suicide. The man had been struggling with poverty and family issues.’
