 
                             A Rajshahi University professor was killed and another teacher of the same university was critically injured in a road accident in front of Nowhata Jute Mill under Paba upazila in Rajshahi Friday morning.
The deceased, Professor Shib Shankar Roy, is a teacher of the Department of Marketing, and the injured is Professor M Asaduzzaman, a teacher of the Department of Philosophy.
The two university teachers met the accident on the Rajshahi–Naogaon highway at about 6:30am when they had been heading towards the Nowhata area to catch fish, the police and witnesses said.
When they reached in front of Nowhata Jute Mill, their scooter collided head-on with a sand-laden truck, leaving both of them critically injured, they said.Â
Later, the police and fire service personnel rushed to the spot and took them to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared Professor Shib Shankar dead.
RMCH emergency department in-charge Sankar Kumar Biswas said that Professor Asaduzzaman was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition.
Paba Police Station officer-in-charge Monirul Islam said that the deceased’s son filed a case with the police station against unidentified people.
RU authorities, in a statement on Friday, expressed deep shock at the death of Shib Shankar and wished a speedy recovery for professor Asaduzzaman.
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, referring to the police, reported that a farmer, Parash Bala, 60, of Arua Kanshur village in Sadar upazila under Sadar upazila in Gopalganj, was killed after being run over by a microbus while crossing the road on the Gopalganj-Tekerhat regional highway near the Kanshur bus stand area under the upazila.
