A Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Monday placed arrested content creator Tawhid Afridi on five-day remand in a case filed over the murder of Asadul Haque Babu in Dhaka鈥檚 Jatrabari area during the July uprising.

Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque passed the order after Criminal Investigation Department police inspector Khan Md Erfan, also the investigation officer of the case, produced Tawhid before the court with a seven-day remand plea.


A CID team arrested Tawhid Afridi during a drive in Barishal on Sunday night.

Tawhid鈥檚 father Nasir Uddin Sathi, chairman of private TV channel My TV, were arrested on August 17 in the same case and later, he was sent to jail on August 23 after a five-day remand.

According to the case statement, Md Asadul Haque Babu participated in the protest in Jatrabari on August 5 last year, the day prime minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted and fled to India.

Asadul was shot by the accused at around 2:30pm after which he was taken to hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

The deceased鈥檚 father, Joynal Abedin, filed a murder case with the Jatrabari police on August 30 last year, naming Hasina and 25 others, including Tawhid and his father Nasir Uddin.
