
The death toll from the July 21 fighter jet crash on the Milestone School and College premises in Dhaka city reached 36 as one more student died from her injuries on Saturday morning.
The victim, Tasnia Haque, 15, a Class VIII student of the school, succumbed to her 35 per cent burn injuries at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery after suffering for over a month, according to the health and family welfare ministry and Milestone authorities.
She died at about 7:55am on Saturday, said a press release of the ministry.
The victims are mostly primary-level students who were burned in the heat and fire that engulfed the accident site when the crash happened.
According to the Milestone School and College authorities, among the deceased victims are 28 schoolchildren, three schoolteachers, three guardians and one school attendant.
The other deceased in the crash is the pilot of the aircraft.
Till Saturday 9:30am, according to the health ministry, total 23 crash victims—22 in the burn institute and one in the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka—were undergoing treatment.
Delegations of several physicians and nurses from Singapore, China and India arrived to assist the Bangladeshi physicians in treating the victims.
Fifteen days after the incident, the academic activities of the classes of IX, X and XII resumed on August 6.
Academic activities in classes from Play Group to VIII were resumed on August 11.
The admission procedure for Class XI is under process now across the country after the announcement of the results of the Secondary School Certificate and its equivalent examinations on July 10.
Three counselling teams from the Bangladesh Air Force, BRAC University and Milestone, are currently working to help the students and guardians deal with the trauma the tragedy caused them.
