The death toll from the July 21 fighter jet crash into a building of Milestone School and College in the capital鈥檚 Uttara area reached 35 on Thursday as one more victim died from her injuries in the afternoon.
The victim, Mahfuza Khatoon, 45, a teacher at the school, died at around 1:00pm on Thursday at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said the institute鈥檚 resident surgeon, Shawon Bin Rahman.
The educational institution鈥檚 public relations officer Shah Bulbul said that senior teacher Mahfuza was a deputy coordinator of class III and class V at the school.
The victims of the jet crash are mostly primary-level students and received burn injuries.
According to Milestone authorities, the deceased victims include 27 schoolchildren, three schoolteachers, three guardians, and one school attendant.
The other deceased victim is the pilot of the aircraft.
Fifteen days after the incident, the academic activities of the classes of IX, X and XII resumed on August 6.
The admission procedure for Class XI is yet to be held across the country after the announcement of the results of the Secondary School Certificate and its equivalent examinations on July 10.
No decision has been taken yet to resume the academic activities of the classes between Play Group and VIII, according to the Milestone authorities.
Till August 5, a total of 34 people were undergoing treatment in three hospitals in Dhaka, according to the health ministry.
Three counselling teams operated by the Bangladesh Air Force, BRAC University and Milestone were working at present to counsel the students and the guardians.
A delegation of several physicians and nurses from Singapore, China and India also came to Bangladesh after the jet crash to assist the Bangladeshi physicians in dealing with the situation.
