
At least three people died of dengue in the past 24 hours till Monday morning, raising the death toll to 48 from the mosquito-borne viral disease across the country.
Of the fresh deaths, two died in Barishal division and one in Khulna Division, said a press release by the Directorate General of Health Services.
Of the month-wise deaths, 10 died in January, three in February, seven in April, three in May, 16 in June and six in just seven days of July.
In the past 24 hours till 8:00am on Monday, 492 people were admitted to the health facilities across the country.
With this, the countrywide hospitalisation with dengue reached 12,763, according to the DGHS.
Dengue hospitalisation saw a sharp increase with the beginning of July as 2,467 people were admitted to health facilities in the first seven days of July.
In January, 1,161 people were hospitalised with the viral fever, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April, 1,773 in May and 5,951 in June, the DGHS data showed.
The dengue outbreak was first officially reported in the country in 2000 when 93 people died and 5,551 patients were hospitalised, according to DGHS data. Dengue killed 1,705 people and sent 3,21,179 others to hospital in 2023 against 853 deaths and 2,44,246 hospitalisations between 2000 and 2022, the DGHS data showed.
Past year, the country witnessed a severe dengue outbreak that resulted in 575 deaths and 1,01,214 reported cases. A total of 1,00,040 patients recovered in the period.
