Chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Monday called for moving forward in creating the future world applying the scouting experience.
He made the call while addressing as the chief guest the inaugural session of the nationwide Cub Carnival and the Shapla Cub Award distribution ceremony organised by Bangladesh Scouts at the chief adviser鈥檚 office in Dhaka.
鈥楾oday [Monday] is a special day in the history of scouting. Not only for the scouting in Bangladesh, but for the Scouting in the whole world. Today is a day of special pride,鈥� Yunus said.
He said that the history was created with the eight scouts, who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the country and its people, and to create a new Bangladesh.
鈥楾here is no such precedent anywhere else in the history of scouting. We congratulate the scouts of Bangladesh on behalf of the whole world for creating the history,鈥� Yunus said.聽
Congratulating the awarded, he said that opening the doors was the responsibility of all scouts including those, who received the award and those who were present at the event that day.聽
鈥楧on鈥檛 remain in regret that the doors are closed. You have to open the doors as you have come a long way; because you have come forward, you have become a scout, while the rest of your school has not. So, it is your responsibility to open the doors for others. If you do not open, this door will remain closed,鈥� the chief adviser told the scout members.
Mentioning that he himself is a proud member of the scout family, Yunus reminisced about his student life.聽 He recalled that in 1955, at the age of 15, he participated in the 10th World Boy Scout Jamboree held in Canada with the Boy Scout team. At that time, he got the opportunity to travel to Europe and North America.
鈥楾his was a great opportunity to discover the world and himself in a bigger way. Otherwise, there is no other scope to get to know oneself in a busy life. You must remember that you can create the world of the future with your scouting experience,鈥� he said.
Funded by the ministry of primary and mass education, the Cub Carnival is being implemented simultaneously in all upazilas and special districts of Bangladesh Scouts under the management of the Bangladesh Scouts Programme Department.聽
Cub Carnival inauguration and Shapla Cub Award distribution ceremony are being organised simultaneously in 527 places across the country, including 495 upazilas, five metropolitans, five sub-areas and 22 special scout districts.
On the day, the chief adviser presented the highest award of Cub Scouts, the 鈥楽hapla Cub Award鈥�, and the 鈥楪allantry Award鈥� of Bangladesh Scouts to the family members of eight scouts, who were martyred in the July uprising, for their bravery.聽
Family members of Scout Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mughda, Rover Rohan Ahmed Khan, Rover Tanjir Khan Munna, Scout Sharif Uddin Ahmed Ahnaf, Scout Mahbub Alam, Scout Golam Nafiz, Scout Tahir Zaman Priyo, and Scout Ariful Islam Saad received the awards from Yunus.
