A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed top crime suspect Subrata Bain on eight-day remand in police custody in a case filed with the Hatirjheel police over possession of illegal arms.
The court also put Molla Masud, another top-listed criminal, and his two associates, Arafat alias Shooter Arafat and Sharif, on six-day police remand in the same case, said a court official.
Dhaka additional chief metropolitan magistrate Md Jakir Hossain passed the order after the investigation officer of the case, Hatirjheel police sub-inspector Riyad Ahmed, produced them before the court with a 10-day remand plea.
The Bangladesh Army on Tuesday arrested Subrata Bain alias Fatheh Ali and his close associate Molla Masud alias Abu Rasel Mahmud from a house on Sonar Bangla Road in Kusthia Sadar upazila.
They were arrested at about 5:15am and, based on Subrata’s information, two of his associates, Arafat and Sharif, were also arrested at a location in the Mohanagar Project area under the Hatirjheel police at about 7:00am, Inter Services Public Relation Directorate officials said.
According to the members of the law enforcement agencies, Subrata Bain, 60, began his criminal activities in the capital’s Moghbazar area in the 1990s and led the notoriously ferocious Seven Star Group. Subrata was found guilty in at least 30 murder cases.
Interpol also issued a red notice against Subrata.
Mollah Masud, 54, entered the crime world with Subrata Bain’s backing and exerted his influence particularly in the capital’s Motijheel area.Â
Before the arrest, the two were believed to be in hiding in India.
