Several hundred students and people on Thursday night began a sit-in programme in front of chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus’s official residence Jamuna in the capital demanding trial of ousted Awami League and ban on its political activities hours after former Bangladesh president Abdul Hamid left Bangladesh for Thailand for medical purpose.

They started gathering in front of Jamuna after 10:30pm after National Citizen Party chief organiser for South Hasnat Abdullah on his verified Facebook profile announced the sit-in programme.


In the post, he wrote: ‘The sit-in will continue in front of the chief adviser’s residence at Jamuna until a clear roadmap will be declared ensuring the trial of the Awami League and the ban on its political activities.’

Addressing the sit-in, Hasnat said that students and people of the country gave their decision about fascist AL during the July uprising, that forced Sheikh Hasina to flee to India bringing an end to 15-year AL regime.

‘We will not leave the streets till the ban of AL,’ he said.

Inquilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Bin Hadi told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that nine months had already passed but there was no visible steps from the government to arrest AL leaders and activists responsible for mass killing during the uprising.

‘We ask the advisers how AL leaders get safe exit from the country,’ questioned Hadi.

Meanwhile, NCP convener Nahid Islam also issued a call on his Facebook profile on Thursday night for all the July uprising forces to take to the streets for a clear roadmap for banning AL.

Students and people were joinong the sit-in till writing the report at 12:30am on Friday.

Huge number of law enforcing members were seen in front of Jamuna to maintain security in the area.

A top special branch official told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that Abdul Hamid went to Thailand for treatment through Thai Airways flight TG 340 at about 3:05am on Thursday.
