Leaders of the National Citizen Party and the Ganosamhati Andolan on Wednesday reached a consensus to implement the spirit of the student-led mass uprising that ousted the Awami League regime on August 5, 2024.

They reached the consensus at a meeting held at the NCP central office in Dhaka.


The two parties also decided to hold a series of meetings with the pro-uprising political parties on the issue.

NCP convener Nahid Islam, after holding the meeting, told reporters that his party’s meetings with the pro-uprising political parties began through the meeting with Ganosamhati Andolan.

‘We want a free, fair and credible general election after the implantation of reforms in constitution and ruling system,’ he said.

Ganosamhati Andolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki told reporters that they had reached a consensus with NCP leaders on the issues of holding trials of the individuals of the fascist regime involved in killing students and people during the July-August mass uprising, reforms of the constitution and ruling system, and holding the next general elections as per the commitment of the chief adviser.

Saki also said that their party would hold a series of meetings with other political parties over the issues.

NCP central leaders Abdul Islam Adib, Nusrat Tabassum, Ashraf Uddin Mahdi, Anik Roy, Faridul Haque, Mollah Faroque Ahsan and Ganosamhati Andolan executive coordinator Abul Hassan Rubel and central leaders Taslima Akhter, Hasan Maruf Rumi, Monir Uddin Pappu, Bachuchu Bhuyan, and Dipak Roy, among others were also present.
