A group of jobseekers on Thursday staged a protest march demanding immediate implementation of their eight-point charter of demands for Public Service Commission reform.

The protesters called on the government to announce a comprehensive road map for the reform by Monday.

The demonstration, organised by the PSC Reform Movement, began in front of the Dhaka University central library in the afternoon and ended at Shahbagh with a brief rally.

Speaking at the rally, Bin Yamin Mollah, Dhaka University representative of the movement and Chhatra Odhikar Parishad president, said that although students hoped for reforms following the student-led mass uprising, no visible progress had yet been made.

Referring to earlier developments, he said that on April 17, after discussions with the PSC chair and senior government officials, authorities postponed the 46th Bangladesh Civil Service written exams until May 8 in response to the candidates’ demands.

He added that they were told that a reform commission would be formed through discussions with students, and that a committee, led by energy adviser Fouzul Kabir Khan, had been formed to that end.

Even after eight days, however, no visible steps have been taken to bring those involved in question leaks to justice, Bin Yamin said.

He also demanded an end to harassment through the pre-screening process and urged the authorities to immediately announce the new date for the 46th BCS written exams.

They also demanded that the government present a detailed framework for the reform commission and a time-bound road map for implementing the eight demands by Monday.
