An attempted murder case was filed on Monday with 43 people named as accused over the attack on National Citizen Party chief organiser for South Hasnat Abdullah’s car in Gazipur the previous evening.

The police, meanwhile, detained 54 individuals, affiliated with Awami League and its associate organisations, in drives between Sunday night and Monday morning.


The police claimed that most of the accused in the case were associated with AL and its associate bodies.

Confirming the matter, Gazipur Metropolitan Police additional commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Haque said that the case was filed on Monday evening against more than 100 individuals 43 of whom were named.

Multiple police teams in Gazipur launched operations to identify and arrest those involved in the incident following the attack, he said.

‘So far, 54 suspects were detained and legal action is underway in this incident,’ AC Zahidul said.

Right after the incident, the police arrested Nizam Uddin, a Juba League leader from Ward 13 of Gazipur City, and Masum Ahmed, also known as Dipu, president of Sheikh Russell Shishu Kishor Parishad from Basan area, added the police official.

Earlier, the vehicle carrying Hasnat Abdullah came under attack allegedly by 10–12 miscreants on motorbikes in Chandana Chaurasta area in Gazipur city while returning to Dhaka city from Gazipur on Sunday evening.

Attackers hurled brick chips at the car, injuring Hasnat.

Following the attack, Hasnat’s followers demonstrated in the bypass, Boardbazar and Chandana Chaurasta areas of Gazipur, demanding arrest of the attackers.

In Dhaka city, NCP activists also brought out a procession on Sunday night from in front of the party office at Banglamotor, protesting at the attack.
