
The Bangladesh Army on Sunday arranged an Iftar party followed by dinner in honour of the victims of July mass uprising at Senamalancha at the Cantonment in the capital Dhaka, according to a press release issued by the Inter Services Public Relation Directorate.
At the programme, the chief of army staff, General Waker-Uz-Zaman, exchanged greetings with injured victims and families of the martyred victims.
Injured victims of the uprising, high ranking army officers, eminent personalities in the civilian circle and directors of different government hospitals were present in the Iftar-cum-dinner party, the ISPR said.
The ISPR said that 4,215 mass uprising victims had taken treatment in various Combined Military Hospitals, 989 had undergone surgery and 39 were now undergoing treatment at the CMH in Dhaka.
Addressing the event, the army chief said that financial assistance for the mass uprising victims would continue in the coming days.
‘You [mass uprising injured] should not lose morale,’ said Waker, adding that the army would stand by the mass uprising injured.
Central leaders of the Students Against Discrimination, a platform which played a key role in toppling the Sheikh Hasina regime in a student-led mass uprising on August 5, 2024, were not present in the Iftar party, according to injured victims.
Injured victims admitted to the Bangladesh Medical University, National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation and National Institute of Opthalmology and Hospital along with the families of the martyrs in the uprising were also present, according to injured victims and families.
