Police on Sunday recovered the hanging body of a Jagannath University female student from a rented hostel at Tanuganj Lane in Old Dhaka.
The deceased is Sabrina Rahman Shammi, a student of the sociology department under the 2021-22 academic session at the JnU.
Hailed from Narayanpur village under Chaugacha upazila in Jashore, Sabrina was residing at a rented female hostel at Tanuganj Lane.
Sutrapur police station officer-in-charge Saiful Islam said, 鈥楽abrina was residing at a hostel at Tanuganj Lane. She stayed in a room alone 鈥� We recovered the body hanging from the ceiling of the room at around 4:30am.鈥�
He also said that police recovered a suicide note from the hostel.
鈥楾he body has been sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital for autopsy,鈥� added the OC.
JnU proctor Tazammol Hoque said that the cause of the death would be known after the autopsy.
鈥楾he body will be taken to her hometown in Jashore,鈥� the proctor added.
