The police have recovered the hanging body of film producer Mahmud Ruhan, known for Punorjonmo, from his mess at East Rayer Bazar in the capital.

He was 27.

His roommate returned to the mess at about 11:00pm on Wednesday and found him hanging from a ceiling fan.

Ruhan, known for his work on projects such as the film ‘Redrum’, ‘The Silence’ web series, and ‘Ami Ki Tumi’, was found dead on the sixth floor of the house adjacent to East Rayer Bazar High School.

After a legal process, Hazaribagh police sent the body to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination on Thursday afternoon.

Hazaribagh police station sub-inspector Shaon Kumar Biswas said that Ruhan reportedly had gone through a divorce from his wife a month ago and he started living in the mess at East Rayer Bazar for the past two months.

He had to stay in different parts of the country due to shooting of films.

Shaon Kumar said that it was initially believed that he had committed suicide due to depression over separation from his wife and other family reasons.

‘The actual reason for his death would be ascertained after the autopsy report,’ added the police officer.

Ruhan’s cousin Manjurul Hasan Ali said that Ruhan got married about two and a half years ago and got divorced a couple of months ago.

‘He used to live on the Sher-e-Bangla road of Rayer Bazar with his wife. Ruhan fell into depression following the end of his marriage and family issues,’ he said.
