
Jatiya Press Club managing committee member and private television channel NTV news editor Shimanta Khokon’s body was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his rented house in the capital’s Shantinagar area on Tuesday.
Shimanta, 51, had been sick for a long time.
He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
Confirming his death, Shimanta’s nephew Tauhidul Kabir Antor said that his uncle was found hanging from the ceiling fan at about 12:30pm.
‘We have informed the Paltan police of the matter and police recovered uncle’s body,’ he said, adding that his autopsy would be conducted at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Wednesday morning.
He said that his wife was in another room when he was found dead.
Paltan police station duty officer said that an unnatural death case was filed by Shimanta’s son Shayanta Rahman, 19, with the police station in this regard.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner Md Mainul Hasan sent a condolence message over the death of Shimanta.Â
He will be buried at his village graveyard in Kishorganj after namaz-e-janaza at Jatiya Press Club and Dhaka Reporters Unity on Wednesday, state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported.
In a message of condolence, JPC president Hasan Hafiz and general secretary Ayub Bhuiyan prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul of Khokon. They also conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
DRU president Syed Shukur Ali Shuvo and general secretary Mohi Uddin also expressed condolences over the death of Khokon.
