The High Court on Sunday granted bail to former Narayanganj mayor Salina Hayat Ivy in five cases filed over murders and grievous injuries during the July 2024 mass uprising.
A bench of Justice ASM Abdul Mobin and Justice Md Sagir Hossain passed the order after delivering verdicts on five separate rules issued in July 2025, asking the government to explain why she should not be granted bail.
Of the five cases, three were filed over the killings of Md Tuhin, Minarul Islam, and Sazal Miah during the student-led movement in Narayanganj.
Two other cases involved injuries to several people, including Chan Miah.
Ivy’s lawyer SM Siddiqur Rahman, assisted by SM Hridoy Rahman, argued that there were no specific allegations against her and the investigations made no progress while she had been detained for six months without trial.
Although, according to her lawyers, she did not oppose the student movement against discrimination.
She was arrested on May 9, 2025, at her Narayanganj residence.
Ivy, along with several local Awami League leaders — including Shamim Osman and Gazi Golam Dastagir — was accused in the cases filed by the families of the deceased and injured victims with Siddhirganj and Fatullah police stations.
