At least eight Bangladeshi expatriates lost their lives in a tragic road accident on Wednesday afternoon (Bangladesh local time) in Duqm Sidra, Oman.
According to local and official sources, the accident occurred at around 3:30pm when a vehicle carrying 11 fishermen crashed while returning from a fishing trip.
Ten people were killed on the spot, including the eight Bangladeshis.
Mangcingnu Marma, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Sandwip, confirmed the deaths, stating, ‘All of the victims had gone to sea for fishing, and the accident occurred while they were returning. We’ve learnt that 11 people were in the vehicle, and 10 died at the scene. Seven of the deceased were from Sandwip’s Sarikait union in Chattogram.’
The victims have been identified as Amin Soudagar, Arju, Rocky, Bablu, Shahabuddin, Jewel, Rony, and Alauddin, all from Raozan upazila.
