
Gono Odhikar Parishad president Nurul Haque Nur, who was injured in the head and nose in an attack on Friday in Dhaka, is now in a stable condition, said Dhaka Medical College Hospital authorities on Sunday afternoon.
Nur’s wife Maria Nur, however, urged the authorities to arrange better treatment for him abroad.Â
‘Nur’s condition is stable now. He suffered head injuries and his nasal bone was fractured,’ DMCH director Brigadier General Md Asaduzzaman told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· at about 1:30pm.
He also said that Nur had a little internal hemorrhage and the CT scan report showed that it was quite resolved.
Nur had some complaints of pain and sleep disruption, he added.
A six-member medical board has been formed for the treatment of Nur, who is still at the intensive care unit of the hospital.
Meanwhile, Maria at a press briefing on the DMCH premises urged people to pray for Nur’s quick recovery.
‘I hope that advanced treatment will be arranged for him abroad,’ said Maria.  Â
More than 50 leaders and activists of the Gono Odhikar Parishad were injured on Friday evening when a clash broke out between the activists of the Jatiya Party and the Gono Odhikar Parishad in front of JP central office at Bijoynagar in Dhaka.
At one stage, law enforcers charged baton on Nur and others and he suffered the serious injuries.
On Sunday, Bangladesh Nationalist Party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, health adviser Nurjahan Begum, and local government and rural development adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, among others, visited the hospital to inquire about the condition of Nur, also a former Dhaka University Central Students’ Union vice-president.
Earlier, different political parties and their leaders, including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Amar Bangladesh Party and National Citizen Party, condemned the attack. The interim government also condemned the attack on the Gono Odhikar Parishad president.
