Bangladesh Nationalist Party acting chairman Tarique Rahman has strongly condemned the attack on Gono Odhikar Parishad leader Nurul Haque Nur and the violent clashes that erupted at Kakrail, describing the incident as a threat to the country’s fragile democratic transition.

In a post shared on his official X and Facebook accounts, Tarique said Bangladesh was passing through a critical phase, where the national elections represented the first step towards restoring democracy.

‘Pro-democracy stakeholders, including the BNP and its allies, must act with restraint and tolerance. The true spirit of last year’s mass uprising must be upheld. Bangladesh must break free from mob rule and the cycle of instability,’ he said.

Tarique said that for Bangladesh to progress, it was essential to remain vigilant against mob culture, safeguard the rule of law, and work towards creating a peaceful and stable nation.

He said that the nation could only move forward in unity by empowering its people through a democratic path and by ensuring justice, equality, and dignity for all.

Tarique also conveyed his wishes for Nur’s speedy recovery and called on the government to conduct a lawful investigation into the incident.
