A man who had suffered bullet injuries during a factional clash between the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s student wing and its youth front at Rupganj in Narayanganj died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The deceased, Mamun Hossain, 32, was a gas cylinder trader and the younger brother of Bhulta union Juba Dal organising secretary Badal Hossain.
Naraynaganj senior assistant superintendent of police (C circle) Mehedi Islam said that a case was filed after the incident.
‘As the injured died, now a murder case will be filed with the Rupganj police station,’ he added.
According to witnesses, the clash broke out between supporters of former district Chhatra Dal publicity secretary Jayedul Islam Babu and those of Bhulta union Juba Dal organising secretary Badal Hossain due to a rivalry over control.
The unrest began when locals detained former leader of Bhulta union unit of banned Chhatra League Sabbir Hossain Khoka at Majhipara on Tuesday afternoon.
Badal’s supporters were allegedly attacked by Babu and his supporters while escorting Khoka towards Badal’s house, leading to a violent clash during which Badal’s younger brother Mamun was shot.
Babu denied involvement.
‘I heard that shots were fired after some people detained BCL’s Khoka. But I was not present there. I was at home,’ he added.
