
At least four people were injured in a clash between two factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party over jhut business of Saturn Textile Limited at Tongi in Gazipur Friday morning.
Panic gripped local people as several crude bombs were exploded during the clash between the followers of Gazipur city BNP’s ward number 50 unit general secretary Humayun Kazi and Swechhasewak Dal’s Gazipur city unit member secretary Halim Molla at about 11:00am, locals and the police said.
They said that the clash occurred when Humayn Kazi’s followers waylaid Halim Molla’s jhut-laden truck.
At least four people were injured in the clash and they were taken to different clinics for treatment, they said.
The police, on information, rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, they said.
Humayun Kazi said that he had been taking jhut from the Saturn Textile Limited since August 10, 2024 following a deed with his Noor Enterprise.
‘Halim Molla’s followers created obstacles at the factory gate. They also exploded several crude bombs,’ Humayun told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.
Halim Molla could not be reached for comments despite several attempts as his phone was found switched off.
Tongi West police station officer-in-charge Iskandar Habibur Rahman said that none filed any complaint and none was arrested so far in this connection.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police’s deputy commissioner for crime (south) NM Nasiruddin said the two groups again chased each other after Jummah prayers and the police also brought the situation under control.
