
More than 50 people were injured as two groups of people clashed over an alleged theft of cucumbers from a field at Nasirnagar in Brahmanbaria on Tuesday morning.
The police said that the clash broke out between the Sarkarbari and Barabari groups of Shrighar village of Burishwar union under the upazila.
Several houses were vandalized and over 50 people were injured during the clash.
Seven seriously injured were admitted to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital.
Confirming the matter, Brahmanbaria assistant superintendent of police Tapan Sarkar said that no party had filed a complaint with the police station.
The situation in the village is currently under control as of Tuesday evening, the police official added.
According to police and local people, a young man of Barabari allegedly stole cucumbers from the field of one Jewel Mia of Sarkarbari in Shrighar village on Sunday.
Later, an altercation occurred between the two groups at the village market on Monday night.
Following the incident, people on both sides clashed for four hours with machetes, spears, sticks and bricks at around 6:30am on Tuesday.
The police later brought the situation under control at about 10:30am.
