
More than one hundred people were injured in a series of clashes from Saturday evening to Sunday noon between residents of two villages at Companiganj upazila in Sylhet over a dispute involving mobile phone charging.
Companiganj police station officer-in-charge Ujaer Al Mahmud confirmed the matter to 抖阴精品.
Local people said that a resident of Barni village of the Companiganj upazila locked in an altercation with a resident of nearby Kathalbari village on Saturday evening over charging a mobile phone in a shop at the upazila headquarters.
Later, at around 7:30pm, people of the both Barni and Kathalbari villages were involved in a series of attacks and counter-attacks, leaving at least 50 people on both sides injured, witnesses said.
On information, a contingent of the Companiganj police station and a team of the army rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control at around 9:30pm, the police said.
As a sequel to Saturday鈥檚 clashes, residents of the Barni and Kathalbari villages started preparations to attack each other on Sunday morning.
They made separate announcements over loudspeakers urging their people to take part in a fresh clash.
Later at around 11:00am, more than one thousand people on the both sides, armed with locally made weapons, locked in the fresh clash in the Thana Bazar area under the upazila, the witnesses said.
The police reached the spot as soon as the clash started and fired rubber bullets and teargas shells to disperse the villagers but failed, they said.聽聽聽聽
Later, a large number of army and Rapid Action Battalion personnel reached the spot at around 12:30pm and brought the situation under control, the locals said.
