
Import and export operations through Akhaura Land Port will be suspended for nine consecutive days from September 29 to October 7, marking the observance of Sharadiya Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Bengali Hindu community.
However, the operations of the land customs station and the passenger movement through Akhaura Immigration Check Post with valid passports will remain normal during the period, said Md Faruk Mia, general secretary of the Akhaura Land Port Fish Exporters Association.
‘On the occasion of the Durga Puja and Lakshmi Puja, as per the decision of the businessmen of the two countries, it has been decided to close the import-export through the Akhaura land port
for nine days from next Monday to October 7,’ he said.
He added that import-export will resume from Wednesday after the nine-day closure.
Wahiduzzaman Khan, revenue officer of the Akhaura Land Customs Station, said although import-export will be closed for nine days, customs operations will remain operational.
Mohammad Abdus Sattar, in-charge of the Akhaura Immigration Checkpost, said although import-export will be closed for nine days on the occasion of Durga Puja, passenger transit activities through the immigration checkpost will remain normal.
They will be able to travel between India and Bangladesh through the immigration checkpost from 8 am to 6:30pm every day.
