
A 14-day theatre festival titled Dhaka Mahanagar Natya Utsab, scheduled to begin at Bangladesh Mahila Samity in Dhaka on Saturday, was postponed for the cancellation of auditorium allocation.
Dhaka Mahanagar Natya Parshad was the organiser of the festival.
‘Bangladesh Mahila Samity authority cancelled the allocation of auditorium for the festival on Saturday,’ said Dhaka Mahanagar Natya Parshad member secretary Kamal Ahmed.
He also added that they planned to organise the festival in April at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
An official of the Bangladesh Mahila Samity said that they cancelled the allocation of the festival due to security concerns.
Mahila Samity authorities informed us that the Ramna police suggested stopping the festival due to security concerns, alleged Kamal.
In a message over phone, Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Saturday said that they did not announce any notification to postpone or cancel the festival. Â
In this regard, cultural affairs adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki posted a statement on his verified Facebook account on Sunday.
The statement said that the event was postponed due to cancellation of the auditorium allocation by Bangladesh Mahila Samity authority.
Regarding the issue, Bangladesh Udichi Shilpi Goshthi on Saturday issued a press release and demanded security for cultural events.
