
The Dhaka Mohanagar Nattya Utshab will begin at Bangladesh Mahila Samity in Dhaka on Saturday.
Organised by Dhaka Mohanagar Nattya Porshod, the festival will feature 14 theatre productions by Dhaka-based theatre troupes.
The festival will be inaugurated by 100 theatre audiences and theatre actresses.
The announcement was made at a press conference held at Sanskriti Bikash Kendra at Paribagh in Dhaka on Thursday.
The Porshod convener Thandu Raihan, member secretary Kamal Ahmed, Mohammad Bari, Faruk Ahmed and Ananta Hira, among others, were present at the press conference which was moderated by Md Akhtaruzzaman.
The festival also comprises a seminar on February 22 and a season ticket will be introduced at the festival which permit all shows at the festival, said Md Akhtaruzzaman.
After the COVID pandemic the theatre practice of the country failed to attract mass audiences and after the political unrest this festival aimed to create a new audience for theatre, said Kamal Ahmed at the conference.
On the opening day Theatre will stage their acclaimed theatre production titled ‘Payer Awaj Pawa Jay’.
The festival will features 14 production including Loko Natya Dal’s ‘Kanjus’, Theatre Art Unit’s ‘Balay’, Nattokendro’s Punnah, Anuswar’s ‘Hermachis Cleopatra’ and Prachyanat’s ‘Kinu Kaharer Thyatar’.
