The BJP-led NDA alliance registered a landslide victory in Maharashtra, while the opposition INDIA bloc was poised to bag Jharkhand on Saturday.

As votes were counted for the assembly polls held earlier this month, voters in both states went for continuity rather than change as both BJP-led Mahayuti and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led alliance managed to buck the anti-incumbency.

The BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP partnership banded under Mahayuti won 222 of the 288 seats and was leading in 7 others in the powerhouse state of Maharashtra. The sweep would surely go down in history as one of the biggest poll victories.

As for the Maha Vikas Aghadi partnership of the Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena, it managed to win a mere 46 seats and was leading in 9 others.

In the 81-seat Jharkhand assembly, Hemant Soren’s JMM-led alliance was all set to retain power as it won in at least 55 assembly segments, reports etvbharat.com.

The performance of the BJP-led NDA, which was seen as confident about its prospects in the state after an aggressive campaign, was poorer than its expectations. It was leading in 29 seats.

The BJP’s poll plank was driving out ‘infiltrators’ from the Santha Parganas region, but it seemed to have fallen flat in front of the ‘Adivasi’ card played by the JMM, which also sought the people’s sympathy over the arrest of Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
