Mohammad Farhad

The 38th death anniversary of Mohammad Farhad, former general secretary of the Communist Party of Bangladesh and former lawmaker, will be observed today.

The leftist political leader, also a freedom fighter, Farhad died of heart attack in Moscow on October 9, 1987 at the age of 49 while undergoing treatment in the capital city of the then Soviet Union.


Marking the day, the CPB and different organisations have taken elaborate programmes, including placing wreaths at his grave at the Banani Graveyard.

A commemorative meeting will be held at Maitri Auditorium of Mukti Bhaban in the capital鈥檚 Purana Paltan area at 4:00pm.

Born in 1938, Farhad had played a vital role in the Language Movement of 1952, the Education Movement of 1962, the Mass Uprising of 1969, the War of Independence and the anti-autocratic movement.

He was elected lawmaker for Panchagarh 2 parliamentary constituency in 1986.
