Jatiya Juba Shakti, the youth wing of the National Citizen Party, on Sunday alleged that the leaders and activists of the NCP were facing media trial.

The youth organisation’s convener, Tarikul Islam, made the comment at a press conference at its central office in the capital’s Banglamotor area.

The press conference was organised to announce the organisation’s national youth conference to be held in Dhaka on Tuesday to mark the International Youth Day.

Tarikul also alleged that different forces were trying to make them controversial.

‘Those who led the July mass uprising from the front line are being subjected to media trial,’ Tarikul alleged.

A group of student and youth leaders who led the 2024 mass uprising launched the NCP in February this year.

Referring to the recent Cox’s Bazar trip of the five top leaders of the NCP, he said, ‘Mainstream media houses of Bangladesh lied about the Cox’s Bazar trip.’

He also claimed that political parties were not supporting the youths.

About his organisation’s national youth conference, Tarikul said that that the leaders and activists of Jatiya Juba Shakti from across the country, leaders of different political parties, representatives of civil society, youth organisations, and delegates from the United Nations and other international bodies would join the programme to be held at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh in the capital’s Farmgate area.

International Youth Day is a United Nations–designated day, observed every year on August 12, to celebrate the contributions of young people to society and to raise awareness about the challenges they face.

‘At the National Youth Conference-2025, we will unveil our youth manifesto, not a lengthy policy proposal, but a direct pledge to the people,’ said Tarikul.

The aim of the event is to ensure youth representation in every corner of the country, he added.

NCP convener Nahid Islam will attend the programme as the chief guest.
