
Police arrested 20 people following a series of clashes between members of law enforcement agencies and activists of Awami League in Gopalganj district town over National Citizen Party’s rally that killed four people and injured many more.
‘We have arrested 20 people so far since Wednesday afternoon. We have also deployed additional police force and imposed a curfew to avoid further violence,’ the superintendent of police in Gopalganj, Md Mizanur Rahman, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.
He said that 35 policemen were injured while performing their duties and five of them were admitted to hospitals.
The Gopalganj district administration has informed the home ministry that the whole district remains under the purview of curfew from 8:00pm on Wednesday to 6:00pm on Thursday.
The SP said that the law and order situation was now under control.
